Norman, Lapentti Exit Wimbledon
Updated 4:05 PM ET June 21, 2001
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) - Magnus Norman of Sweden, Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador and Karol Kucera of Slovakia on Thursday became the latest players to withdraw from Wimbledon.

Norman, who was seeded 18th, pulled out with a hip injury and fellow Swede Jonas Bjorkman would replace him among the seeded players at No. 33, the Wimbledon referee's office said.

Bjorkman will open against Lars Burgsmuller of Germany, who was supposed to play Norman.

Lapentti, seeded 30th, has an elbow injury and was replaced by Harel Levy of Israel. Levy will play a first-round match against Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Kucera was scheduled to play 17th-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany in the first round.

Other big names already out of the men's event are world No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten, who won his third French Open title 10 days ago, runner-up Alex Corretja, Mark Philippousis, '96 Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek and Marcelo Rios, all through injury.

Missing from the women's field are Monica Seles, Mary Pierce and Anna Kournikova.
