Magnus Norman:
Wimbledon -No, Båstad-Yes

Magnus Norman has decided to accept a Wild Card for the Telenordia Swedish Open July 7-15, if he's healthy from his injury.

- That's our new goal, said Norman at a press conference in Stockholm last week.

Magnus has this spring suffered from a strange hip injury, which has impaired his game. Magnus is not playing at Wimbledon, which started on Monday, and by not playing Wimbledon, he will have a couple of weeks off. This will give him some rest and clay-court practice before the Swedish Open. Norman's participation pleases the organizers.

- Magnus showed last year what he's capable of, if he's injury free. He's one of the best clay-court players in the world, and he's always playing well at home, according to Magnus Gustavsson, Sports manager Telenordia Swedish Open.

After last years success with a final at the French Open, victories at Rome and four other tournaments, Norman had great plans for 2001, but they were spoiled by injuries and a let down of his form. Right now he's hoping to get well and make a new mark in Båstad, where he's defending his title.

Telenordia Swedish Open Båstad has this year a very strong field where young new clay-court specialists will face established stars. Norman, Vinciguerra and Gustavsson will face tough clay-court opponents from Spain and Argentina.
