Crunch-time

The defending champion will enter Center court today. Magnus Norman makes a small comeback after a month long layoff due to injury. Magnus Larsson vs. Andrew Ilie is another great match up.

-It feels empty and sad but I’ve got more tournaments left before I definitely quit, said Gustaffson after the match.

The Sports Director promises to come back in other roles than as a player and he still has the doubles tournament left. But he will surely be missed here in Bastad. Andreas Vinciguerra advanced after beating Mariano Hood of Argentina in straight sets.

- The first match is always difficult but luckily I got used to play in front of a full stadium already during the opening ceremony, said a delighted Viciguerra afterwards.

On the comeback trail
Magnus Larsson starts in only his fifth tournament this year. A knee injury has kept him out of action from July last year until April of this year. Larsson still has the touch although he feels a little rusty due to lack of matches. Today’s match against Ilie could be very interesting. the Australian is an unconventional player that often times surprise his opponents as well as the crowd.

Magnus Norman has not been able to reach the same level that brought him to the top last year. He won five titles last year and by winning Bastad he became number one on the ATP Champions Race. A mystical hip-injury has bothered him but he is now ready to play after a month rest and rehabilitation.

His opponent is of the toughest kind. Puerta may not be extremely well-known, he did however, win more matches than any other player on the ATP- Tour last year.

At 11.00 am two possible future superstars can be seen. Robredo and Acasuso, both 19 years-old have achieved great results on clay, and may be ready to take their first ever title already here in Bastad. And on court No. 4 we continue to offer pro tennis free of charge.

Kids Conference
Johan Settergren will be in the Children’s area to answer question from curious kids at 14.00 p.m.
