Norman moves into quarterfinals
BASTAD, Sweden -- Top-seeded Magnus Norman got off to a perfect start and went on to beat Andrew Ilie 6-4, 6-3 Thursday for a quarterfinal berth in the Swedish Open.

Norman, the two-time defending champion, broke the Australian at love in the opening game for all he needed to win the first set. . That service break was all the Swede needed to win the first set.

Norman, who made the French Open final last year and briefly topped the ATP Champions' Race, is coming off a five-week hip injury layoff, the longest break of his tennis career.

In the quarters, Norman will play Belgium's Christophe Rochus, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over American er Michael Russell.

Also advancing to the quarters were third-seed Albert Portas of Spain, who struggled past Jose Acasuso of Argentina, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 and No. 5 Bohan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic, a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Brazil's Fernando Meligeni 7-5, 6-4.
