Norman Ready
To Return
|
|
By Richard Pagliaro
01/25/2002 |
Many people
flock to Florida to retire, but Magnus Norman arrived in the Sunshine
State recently ready to revive his career.
The
former French Open finalist is regaining his fitness after undergoing hip
surgery last fall. The Swede's hip injury had sidelined him since the
Tennis Masters Series-Cincinnati tournament last August, but Norman
practiced in Stockholm earlier in the month before flying to Florida to
resume intensive training at the the Nick Bollettieri Academy.
"The hip feels
great," Norman told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. "I feel
stronger and more motivated than ever before. I am convinced that my best
tennis is ahead of me."
While undergoing post-surgery
rehab, Norman kept busy with a variety of activities including providing
commentary for Swedish television during the Stockholm Open, attending the
Jennifer Lopez post-concert VIP party and coaching Swedish tennis players
during their annual ice hockey challenge game against Swedish golfers.
The 25-year-old Norman plans
to return to tennis in Vina del Mar on February 11th.
