Norman to skip
summer's grass tournaments STOCKHOLM -- Magnus Norman, struggling to return to the tennis world elite after a hip injury that has kept him sidelined for six months, plans to skip this summer's grass season, including Wimbledon. "As it looks right now he will not play the grass tournaments, they aren't worth the effort," the Swedish TT news agency quoted Norman's coach Fredrik Rosengren as saying. Norman, a French Open finalist in 2000 -- the year when he was ranked world No. 1 for a few weeks -- is in Monte Carlo for the $2.95 million Masters tournament played on clay, the Swede's favorite surface. Norman's next competitions in the run-up to the French Open will be Munich, Rome and Hamburg, Rosengren said. At Wimbledon, Norman, 25, has never gone beyond the third round, once in 1997 and then in 1999. Source: ESPN.com |
